Anti-PGL-I ELISA (IgM)
Enzyme immunoassay for IgM directed against the M. leprae-specific phenolic glycolipid-I or its synthetic disaccharide analogues. Antibody titre correlates with bacillary load, giving high sensitivity in multibacillary disease and low sensitivity in paucibacillary disease.

- Specimen
- Venous blood
- Development status
- LDT with clinical validation

- None / RUO
- Intended use
- Measurement of infection burden and seroprevalence in populations and contacts
- Main limitation
- Antibody levels follow bacillary load, and a positive result in endemic populations predicts disease poorly.
