MALDI-TOF Antigen and Immunoproteomic Profiling
Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry applied to M. leprae antigens that react with patient immunoglobulin. It is used for biomarker identification rather than as a deployable assay.
- Technology
- Antigen Detection · Mass spectrometry
- What it measures
- M. leprae-derived antigenic peptides (such as the 35 kDa MML-1 antigen)
- Developer
- Research laboratories, including the ICMR-National JALMA Institute (Agra, India) and Fiocruz with the University of Campinas (Brazil)
- Specimen
- Venous blood
- Development status
- Assay in development
- Regulatory status
- None / RUO
- Intended use
- Identification of candidate antigenic biomarkers
- Main limitation
- A research method for finding markers, not a test that can be deployed.
- Linked publications
- 5
- Collaborating institutions
- Madurai Kamaraj University (India), Instituto Politécnico Nacional (Mexico), GLA University (Mathura, India), Stanley Browne Laboratory, The Leprosy Mission Community Hospital (Delhi, India)
- TPP-1, confirming leprosy
- 22.5 of 100, low alignment
- TPP-2, infection in contacts
- 14.0 of 100, low alignment
