Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP)
Isothermal amplification at a single temperature with turbidimetric or colorimetric detection. It requires no thermal cycler, tolerates crude lysates and is compatible with battery-powered heating blocks.
- Technology
- Molecular (NAAT) · Isothermal amplification
- What it measures
- RLEP or 16S rRNA (M. leprae DNA)
- Developer
- Multiple laboratories
- Specimen
- Slit-skin smear
- Development status
- LDT with clinical validation
- Regulatory status
- None / RUO
- Intended use
- Field-based confirmation of infection where thermal cycling is unavailable
- Main limitation
- The open-tube read-out risks contamination, and performance varies between primer sets.
