Droplet Digital PCR (ddPCR)
Partitioning of the reaction into nanolitre droplets for absolute copy-number quantification without reference to a standard curve. It achieves the lowest reported limit of detection for M. leprae DNA among published amplification methods.
- Technology
- Molecular (NAAT) · Digital PCR
- What it measures
- RLEP and M. leprae DNA, with absolute quantification
- Developer
- Laboratory-developed assays, including those from the Shandong Provincial Institute of Dermatology and Venereology and Kunming Medical University (China)
- Specimen
- Slit-skin smear
- Development status
- RUO with analytical validation
- Regulatory status
- None / RUO
- Intended use
- Absolute quantification in low-burden specimens, including contact and environmental samples
- Main limitation
- High equipment cost, and clinical series are still small.
